As more organisations turn towards strategic M&A opportunities – rather than just chasing scale – there’s been a notable increase in dealmaking activity in Belgium’s legal industry as it tries to keep up with rising costs and regulations, especially around AI.
In this quarter, PKF Bofidi Legal announced the acquisition of Lexcom to broaden its corporate law services and to enable it to handle more complex litigation cases entirely in-house. “We are currently seeing the first tentative steps towards a consolidation movement in the Belgian legal profession. By joining forces, we can continue to invest in specialised expertise, new technologies, and high-quality service,” shares PKF BOFIDI Legal partner Christophe Piette. “For us, therefore, this is not an endpoint, but the beginning of a broader story.”
Belgian law firms DLPA and Crivits Legal also officially merged this quarter, combining their expertise to create a single legal partner for businesses navigating transformation. “This fusion allows us to offer even more, building on our specialisation in insolvency and strengthening our multi-niche presence in the legal landscape,” emphasises Rik Crivits, partner at Crivits Legal.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a big part of this transformation. “Today, tech in general is being looked at more frequently. Even traditional law firms are looking into launching pilots for due diligence and deal drafting,” shares Maurits Arnauw, Jurimesh head of M&A and legal innovation.
In June, Belgian startup Duely raised €1.1 million in fresh funding to scale its M&A legal services. The “legal services firm built like a technology company” believes this new category of professional service providers will become one of the next major developments in the legal and advisory market.
Furthermore, findings from Aon’s 2026 Transaction Solutions Global Claims Study suggest that the Belgian mid-market is becoming more mature in risk management, which is putting increasing regulatory pressure on dealmakers. “Now, probably more than 60 percent of deals, depending on the segment, are done with a W&I insurance policy,” explains Andrea Foti, managing director and chief commercial officer EMEA at Aon’s M&A and Transaction Solutions.

This backdrop of increased risk maturity, technical integration, and market consolidation is clearly reflected in the Q2 2026 M&A League Tables. Based on data from Dealmakerdata.be – the country’s fast-growing database that tracks announced transactions and highlights the professionals behind them – these were the firms and individuals that led the Belgium M&A market from April to June this year.
Note that what follows is not a definitive list of top performers, but rather an overview of what firms and professionals were most visible on Dealmakerdata.be in the second quarter of 2026.

In the firm-level legal rankings, ACE Law secured the top position by completing 12 transactions, Monard Law followed in second place with seven deals, while Argo Law and K/Partners tied for third with five completed transactions each.
Among individual legal dealmakers, lawyer Didier Roemers took the top spot, advising on all of ACE Law’s recorded deals this quarter. AKD Belgium partner Timothy Speelman placed second with five deals, and Monard Law partner Pieter van den Broeck took third with three deals.

Strategic M&A is shifting Belgium’s legal landscape
The recent wave of legal consolidation (such as PKF Bofidi Legal acquiring Lexcom and DLPA merging with Crivits Legal) is establishing a strong "middle tier" in Belgian legal advisory. As these merged entities integrate specialised practice groups and scale operations, the second half of 2026 will see heightened competition for mid-market mandates, challenging established players to justify their value proposition.
When looking at values disclosed in our database during Q2, Olivier Querinjean’s €1 billion deal, Laurens Engelen’s €100 million deal, as well as Dirk Meeus’ and Matthias Wauters’ €87.5 million deals each demonstrated that mid-sized and larger corporate mandates continue to drive significant overall value.
On the other hand, firms built around streamlined workflows and early tech adoption (exemplified by ACE Law and Didier Roemers, leading the rankings with 12 deals, followed by Monard Law’s seven deals) are capturing massive mid-market volume.
As legal-tech platforms like Duely and Jurimesh gain traction, the rest of 2026 will see traditional firms forced to match this strategic shift or lose market share on mid-ticket mandates.
