Sale of Royal ERU by St. Paul does not disrupt the market.
The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has given permission for the takeover of Koninklijke ERU, known for Goudkuipje cheese spread, by the Belgian cheese producer St. Paul. That acquisition was announced in April. According to the ACM, competition will not be disrupted by the takeover.
Last month, the Belgian cheese manufacturer reported to the ACM for a takeover of ERU. Since then, ACM has reviewed and approved the matter.
The Woerden-based ERU celebrates its bicentennial this year and makes various cheese spreads and slices of cheddar and other types of cheese. St. Paul makes cheese that is used in all kinds of products, such as pizza, meat with cheese and cheese snacks. The company is based in Lokeren in Belgium. The head office is in the Netherlands, in Sint Jansteen in Zeeland.
According to the companies, the acquisition will create a market leader for a "wide range of processed cheese preparations" and will make St. Paul the largest processed cheese producer in the Benelux. Financial details about the deal are not known.
