Flamaway finds a Belgian home with Campine, which gains a global footprint

Campine has signed an agreement to acquire Flamaway, broadening its flame-retardancy solutions beyond Belgium.

The addition of East Flemish chemical compounds supplier Flamaway Group significantly strengthens Campine’s position in the global flame-retardancy market. Flamway operates a manufacturing plant, distribution facility, and application laboratory in Rochdale, UK, as well as a third location in Suzhou, China, responsible for purchasing and sales, with a small application laboratory to evaluate raw materials. “With our joint forces, we become a global flame-retardant powerhouse,” says Wim de Vos, CEO of the Kempen-based metals recycling and specialty chemicals company, Campine. He adds:

“Our product portfolio will enlarge substantially with Flamaway’s R&D and multimaterial knowledge, allowing us to boost developments in Campine’s French business and realise synergies in purchasing.”

The acquisition is expected to boost Campine’s flame retardant sales by more than 50 percent.

Flamaway also gains entry to the French market through Campine. “By combining our customer networks and market access, we see significant opportunities to bring Flamaway’s products to new regions and customers,” comments Flamaway CEO and main shareholder, Luc Carlier.

Hans Vercammen, director of Campine’s Specialty Chemical Division, adds that the combination is highly complementary. While Campine’s formulas are built around antimony trioxide, Flamaway’s broad chemical portfolio includes innovative proprietary mixtures and formulas. “We already provide flame-retardant chemicals in powder form and as masterbatches in pellet form. Flamaway adds liquid formulations and strong application know-how,” he elaborates.

Following the transaction’s closing – planned for 1 October 2026 –, Flamaway will fall under Han’s Specialty Chemicals Division. “I am particularly glad I found a Belgian home with a similar culture for my company,” notes Luc, who will continue leading the Flamaway Group alongside implementing synergies with and supporting the growth of the Specialty Chemical Division.

“Joining forces with a financially strong industrial group assures continuity for my Flamaway team and will be an accelerator for growth,” he concludes.
