The agreement to acquire Sanidel marks the fifth successful deal in Belgium for BME
The Dutch-based BME Group continues to execute its robust Buy & Build strategy across Europe, solidifying its position as a fast-growing business-to-business distributor of building materials in eight European countries. The company consistently adds valuable assets and brands to its portfolio, with the recent announcement of its agreement to acquire Sanidel marking the fifth successful deal in Belgium since BME gained independence in 2019.
Sanidel, a specialized merchant in sanitary, heating, and plumbing products, currently operates three branches in Wallonia (Namur, Marche-en-Famenne, and Liège). The acquisition strategically expands BME's STG network further into the Walloon region of Belgium.
Privately owned by Luc Delvaux, Sanidel employs 20 dedicated professionals across its branches. Following the acquisition, Sanidel's Liège location will merge with the existing Liège and Alleur branches of STG, while the other two branches will remain operational, extending the STG network to the Namur and Ardennes region.
This acquisition aligns with BME's geographical expansion strategy, enhancing its national coverage for building, sanitary, heating, and plumbing activities, and complementing the previous Belgium acquisitions of Bridts, Induscabel, Bouwpunt Van der Gucht and Bouwgroep.
In the face of challenging market conditions, including high interest rates and increased building material costs, BME Group's ability to benefit from scale is under pressure. However, with Sanidel being the 32nd acquisition across the Group, the company remains on a solid trajectory.
The financial results for H1 2023 demonstrate that BME's diversified geographic footprint, economies of scale, and synergies throughout the group are paying off, despite the challenging market circumstances.
