Howden's M&A annual review 2025

post-title

The global M&A market rebounded strongly in 2024, marking a 19 percent increase in deal values and a 14 percent rise in volumes compared to the previous year. Private equity activity gained momentum, corporate-led transactions remained steady, and competitive deal financing reshaped the landscape.

Against this backdrop, the M&A insurance market also evolved. Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) policies remained central, while innovative solutions – such as synthetic warranties in competitive auctions – emerged as strategic deal enablers. Howden placed 1,462 policies across 872 deals, reflecting both the market’s growth and insurers’ adaptability in pricing and coverage enhancements.

Environmental and title insurance saw rising demand, with significant growth in real estate financing and sustainability-driven transactions. Meanwhile, the record-breaking 120 million euros W&I claim in EMEA underscored the critical role of insurance in protecting investments.

Explore Howden’s key takeaways from 2024, including emerging risks, evolving underwriting trends, and what lies ahead for M&A insurance in 2025.
