Build your M&A network early as a deal analyst intern

post-title

The M&A Community Belgium is currently looking for a bright, driven student to join the Dealmakerdata.be team.

Breaking into the world of mergers and acquisitions is notoriously competitive. But what if you could spend your part-time as a student analysing the industry’s top deals and meeting the professionals behind them?

The M&A Community Belgium is hiring a deal analyst intern for our deal database team, responsible for entering details (such as deal type, value, close date, strategic rationale, companies and dealmakers involved, etc.) into Dealmakerdata.be – the heart of our ecosystem.

This means processing the available data, directly reaching out to deal teams to track down missing pieces of the puzzle and working closely with the rest of the team to create broader value for the Belgian M&A market, including compiling the popular quarterly League Tables.

See the full role responsibilities.

For outgoing deal analyst intern, Itai Oshri, this was the perfect opportunity to grow as a young M&A professional. “You must be able to interpret and follow the data. It makes people smarter in the sense that it helps you make better decisions, because you know what you are stepping into,” he suggests.

Not only did he gain firsthand insight into the trends driving the deals, but he has built an impressive personal network of industry peers. “Whenever the M&A Community hosts an event, I try to talk to as many people as I can, because there is a lot to learn from their experience,” he shares in an interview.

And, despite usually being the youngest person in the room, Itai says his willingness to learn as well as his respect for their wisdom have earned him a warm welcome among seasoned dealmakers: “It’s essential to know how to work with people, because selling a business can be very emotional. You must have the skills and empathy to talk with people who aren't finance professionals and have spent their whole life building something.”

He emphasises that the pursuit of knowledge and experience is the most important thing for any young professional trying to make it in M&A.

The M&A Community Belgium is looking for someone with:

  • Curiosity, discipline and the ability to work independently
  • An excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written
  • Customer-friendly and comfortable contacting people by phone or email
