Apheon to acquire a majority stake in Teknimed

One of Europe’s leading private equity firms, Apheon, has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire a majority stake in Teknimed.

Apheon will succeed Essling Capital, continuing to work alongside Teknimed CEO and second-generation family owner, Carole Léonard. Under her leadership, Teknimed has doubled its revenue and consistently outperformed underlying markets.

"Teknimed is an exceptional business – exactly the kind of platform Apheon was built to support,” notes Wolfgang de Limburg, Managing Partner of Apheon. “We have tremendous respect for Carole and her team, who have created a unique company combining deep biomaterials expertise, strong regulatory capabilities and trusted relationships with leading orthopaedic OEMs and distributors worldwide.”

In recent years, Teknimed has evolved into a recognised leader in biomaterials. The company develops, manufactures and distributes arthroplasty and spinal cements, synthetic bone substitutes, sports medicine solutions and other biomaterials used across a broad range of orthopaedic and surgical applications.

Today, it serves about 280 OEMs and distributors in more than 80 countries. “As we look ahead, we see significant opportunities to bring our technologies and expertise to an even broader customer and patient base worldwide,” says Carole.

Teknimed plans to leverage Apheon’s track record in healthcare investing and international expansion to accelerate its global development and broaden its product offering. This year alone, the company also announced a binding partnership with Belgian proprietary business software provider, Easi. Its portfolio firm, TMC, also went on an acquiring spree recently:

“In Apheon, we have found a partner who shares our long-term vision and brings the capital, strategic support and M&A expertise needed to accelerate our development. Together, we will solidify our position as a leading global biomaterials platform while upholding the scientific standards and patient focus that define this company,” explains Carole.

She adds that Teknimed also intends to pursue other acquisitions to complement this new growth strategy.
