Common Group, owner of Patro Eisden, is not allowed to take over Dutch first division club Vitesse.
The takeover of the Dutch first division club Vitesse by the American investment group Common Group, owner of second division club Patro Eisden in Maasmechelen, is cancelled.
The independent licensing committee for professional football has rejected the Arnhem Eredivisionist's request for approval, the Dutch Football Association KNVB reported on Wednesday. The committee is not convinced that the Common Group has equity and investors. “No insight has been provided into the origin of the money (to be raised) from the Common Group”, the judgment reads.
Vitesse announced in September 2022 that the Common Group would become the new major shareholder, following the Russian Valeriy Oyf.
Common Group is the main shareholder of London's Leyton Orient (an English third division club) and of Patro Eisden, which has been able to achieve promotion to the Challenger Pro League since the takeover.
