post-title

Ailing French IT group Atos has postponed a decision on its financial rescue.

Atos, which also provides services to government institutions and companies in Belgium, is negotiating two takeover proposals. One of the potential buyers is the in Brussels-listed IT group Econocom.

The decision on this has now been postponed until next week. Negotiators need more time to study the financing of the proposals. Banks and creditors had originally given Atos until April 26 to come up with a rescue plan.

Atos was once one of France's largest tech companies. Due to accounting scandals and mounting debts, the company came to the brink of collapse. But although Atos has lost 90 percent of its value in the past year, it remains an important IT services provider in France. Atos' customers include the military and nuclear energy. The company is also responsible for the cybersecurity of the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
