Sweco, Europe's largest architectural and engineering consultancy, has integrated the Belgian operations of CONIX RDBM Architects into its architecture division, effective immediately under the legal entity Sweco Architects.
This strategic move reinforces Sweco’s ambition to closely align architecture and engineering, creating multidisciplinary solutions for sustainable, socially responsible projects that add value for future generations.
The integration builds on both organizations’ shared focus on collaborative design, where architects, engineers, and specialists work together using advanced technology.
CONIX RDBM Architects brings expertise spanning product design, urban planning, interior and graphic design, data analysis, and policy advice. Sweco aims to further develop its "full lifecycle design" approach, ensuring projects are future-proof, technically sound, and aligned with societal needs.
Erwin Malcorps, Business Area President at Sweco Belgium, calls the merger a logical step, highlighting CONIX RDBM’s decades of influential projects in Belgium and abroad.
Frederik Jacobs, CEO and co-founder of CONIX RDBM, emphasizes that the partnership will strengthen architects’ roles in multidisciplinary teams, bridging cultural and social value with technical expertise.
Founded in 1979 by Christine Conix, CONIX RDBM Architects has grown into an internationally active firm with a portfolio including the Atomium renovation, Belgian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo, and Umicore’s headquarters.
After merging with RDBM in 2013, the firm expanded its work with urban projects like O’Sea and Baelskaai in Ostend, VUB campus expansion, and Brussels’ Multi office tower.
With 45 employees across Antwerp, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, CONIX RDBM now joins Sweco’s European network of 1,500 architects in eight countries. Sweco will continue collaborating with external architects when clients prefer, acting as a coordinating partner between designers and technical specialists.
