EnergyVision-Virya Energy deal driven by demand for specialisation

EnergyVision, a Belgian market leader in green energy supply, acquires approximately 18,000 customers from DATS 24, a Colruyt portfolio company.

New regulations, the roll-out of smart meters and the emergence of dynamic tariff models are making Belgium’s energy supply business increasingly complex, demanding specialised systems, scale and operational efficiency.

In response to this shift, Virya Energy is transferring the retail electricity and gas supply activities of its subsidiary, DATS 24, to EnergyVision, allowing it to focus on activities that create greater value for the group – including investments in renewable energy solutions, green hydrogen, EV charging, and DATS 24's mobility services.

“This is a deliberate, forward-looking choice, not a step backwards,” Virya Energy CEO Paul Tummers reassures. “Continuity remains guaranteed for our energy customers.”

Clients’ contracts, tariffs and conditions are taken over one-to-one, retaining their legal right to free choice of supplier.

“We warmly welcome the approximately 33,000 connection points [around 18,000 customers] of DATS 24,” says EnergyVision CEO Maarten Michielssens (pictured), adding that clients are joining a supplier that treats its customers “the way you treat your best friends: honestly, easy to reach and without hassle”.

EnergyVision is built entirely around energy supply, with the scale and systems that markets demand. “With 100% green electricity and low prices, we are making the sustainable energy transition accessible to everyone,” he notes.

The company made its stock market debut on Euronext Brussels in July 2025, becoming the first Belgian company to go public in four years. “Our IPO allows us to bring more people into the energy transition – not over their heads, but with them,” Maarten said at the time. “This is a step toward making our energy mission more inclusive and future-focused.”

Following this (in December 2025), EnergyVision acquired Turbulent. The Ghent-based micro-hydropower technology company continues developing projects worldwide and, together with EnergyVision, plans to build operational units in Belgium in the coming years.

DATS 24 CEO Jean-Jacques Delmée concludes that the trust it has built with customers over the past years is not something the company hands over lightly, but knows customers will be in good hands: “In EnergyVision, we chose a partner that shares our values: Belgian, green and customer-first.”

The proposed transfer is subject to customary conditions precedent.
