Important step in the consolidation of the toy market in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Belgian toy chain ToyChamp, led by the Nolmans family, has signed an agreement to acquire Dutch toy chain Intertoys from Mirage Retail Group.

Both chains will continue to operate independently in the Dutch market, without changes to their store concepts.

ToyChamp, which previously acquired the Belgian chain DreamLand, continues to strengthen its position in the toy sector with this transaction.

The purchase of Intertoys, with more than 200 stores in the Netherlands, means that ToyChamp will significantly expand its market share in the Netherlands. Intertoys and ToyChamp each fulfill a unique role in the toy market and continue to follow their own course. “The acquisition offers an excellent addition and strong synergy between both formulas, with ToyChamp's experience stores alongside Intertoys' specialized offering”, said Koen Nolmans, CEO of ToyChamp.

The acquisition still needs to be approved by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and is expected to be completed at the end of 2024. Financial details of the transaction have not been made public.

No consequences for employment or management
It is reported that there will be no consequences for employment at Intertoys, and the management, consisting of CEO Eddy Assies and CFO Jan Nap, will also remain unchanged. Ynse Stapert, CEO of Mirage Retail Group, stated that he has confidence in the new owners and emphasized that the experience and dedication of the Nolmans family will be valuable to Intertoys.

With the takeover of Intertoys, Koen Nolmans, who has toys and retail in his blood thanks to his family history, continues his course as an important player and consolidator in the Belgian and Dutch toy market.
