Terhills resort secures future with new Investor TwentyTwo Real Estate

post-title

Terhills Resort, a high-end holiday park built on a former coal and gravel mining site, has been sold by LRM to TwentyTwo Real Estate, a European investment firm.

Developed by LRM in 2019 and operated by Center Parcs since its 2021 opening, the resort – featuring 250 luxury cottages – has achieved exceptional occupancy rates and guest satisfaction scores.

Center Parcs will continue managing the park for at least the next 10 years, ensuring guests maintain the same quality, service, and experience they’ve come to expect. This sale marks the first fully completed reconversion project by LRM, allowing the reinvestment of proceeds into Limburg’s economy.

Once a coal and gravel extraction site, Terhills Resort now stands as a premium destination blending luxury and nature, surrounded by lush wildlife, expansive water features, and unique views from former mine terraces.

The resort serves as a gateway to Hoge Kempen National Park and offers additional amenities, including Terhills Cablepark, Elaisa Wellness, Terland restaurant, Terhills Hotel with Bistro Bureau Bouveau, and Maasmechelen Village shopping. Since its 2021 opening, the park has welcomed over 400,000 guests, totaling 1.5 million overnight stays, attracting visitors from across Europe with its diverse leisure offerings.

This sustainable transformation has created over 350 jobs, turning 219 hectares of industrial land into a thriving ecological and recreational hub. 100 hectares were returned to nature, while 119 hectares were developed for tourism.

"Terhills is an economic engine and a job-creation success story", said Tom Vanham of LRM, reflecting on the project’s alignment with Limburg’s strategic economic plan (SALK) following the closure of the Ford plant. The resort’s high occupancy and satisfaction rates confirm its appeal, with Rudy Hulsman, General Manager of Terhills, noting its role in boosting Limburg’s tourism reputation.

Mark Maesen, Chairman of LRM, emphasized the significance of this sale: "We’ve transformed a bleak industrial site into a place where nature and sustainable employment thrive. As a revolving fund, LRM can now reinvest these resources into Limburg’s economy."

Daniel Rigny, CEO of TwentyTwo Real Estate, added: "Terhills Resort combines a strong tourism concept with unique heritage and a remarkable setting. We’re proud to take ownership and build on this successful long-term transformation alongside Center Parcs and local stakeholders."
