Walloon chemical group Silox has acquired select assets related to sodium hydrosulfite production from German chemical giant BASF.
Sodium hydrosulfite is a core product for Silox, which specializes in reduction and bleaching agents.
The acquisition includes intellectual property, specialized containers, production equipment, technical expertise, and trademarks though no factories or personnel are part of the deal.
Silox, a low-profile yet significant player in the chemical sector, operates production units across Belgium, Canada, and India, and is recognized as a global leader in corrosion-inhibiting pigments and high-quality active zinc oxides.
With around 2,000 employees and 450 million euros in revenue in 2024, this acquisition further strengthens Silox’s position in the sodium hydrosulfite market, following BASF’s decision to exit production in Ludwigshafen as part of its strategic review.
