RWDM fans alarmed as takeover stalls

Fans of RWDM are growing increasingly anxious as the club’s takeover process hits a critical snag, pushing the Brussels-based team to the brink of collapse.

According to reports, the delay in finalizing a sale threatens the survival of professional football in Molenbeek, with the club’s future hanging in the balance.

The Licensing Commission is set to rule on RWDM’s professional license this Friday, and without a new owner, the chances of approval appear slim – further deterring potential buyers.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed on social media that while a group of Belgian and international investors has emerged as a potential savior, negotiations have stalled in the final stages.

The impasse reportedly involves John Textor, the club’s current owner, Ares Management (the investment fund providing high-interest loans to Textor), and Cork Gully, the British firm tasked with facilitating the sale.

Textor’s financial maneuvers – including a 22 percent interest rate on loans from Ares – have left RWDM in a precarious position, with his multi-club model (which once included stakes in Crystal Palace, Botafogo, and Lyon) now unraveling.

The club’s supporters have issued a desperate plea, warning that "every lost hour brings RWDM closer to a point of no return."

In a statement, they condemned the "power games, strategic blockades, and personal interests" delaying the deal, emphasizing that the club’s licensing deadline and financial future are rapidly approaching. Without immediate action, they fear the end of professional football in Molenbeek – a stark reminder of the high stakes in play.
