RTL Group anticipates that the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) will finally approve the acquisition of RTL Nederland by DPG Media in the second quarter of 2025.
The approval process has taken longer than initially expected by both companies.
On Thursday, RTL Group reported its annual financial results and shared optimistic news for DPG Media. The German media conglomerate briefly mentioned that it expects regulatory approval for the sale of RTL Nederland and aims to complete the deal within Q2 2025.
This would mark the conclusion of an unexpectedly prolonged process. The 1.1 billion euros deal was first announced at the end of 2023, positioning Belgian media giant DPG Media to achieve a long-held ambition. Similar to its operations in Belgium ––where it owns Het Laatste Nieuws, the VTM television channels, and Q-Music – DPG Media plans to develop a Dutch media model integrating newspapers, radio, and television.
RTL Group reported total revenue, including RTL Nederland, of 6.89 billion euros in 2023, reflecting a 0.5 percent increase. However, its adjusted EBITDA declined by 4.3 percent to 887 million euros.
