PSG owner Qatar Sports Investments takes over Belgian club Eupen

Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the owner of Paris Saint-Germain, has acquired Belgian second-division side AS Eupen, marking the end of a 13-year tenure under the Aspire Zone Foundation.

The deal, confirmed by both the club and QSI, positions Eupen as a new satellite club within QSI’s expanding football network, which also includes a minority stake in Portuguese club Braga.

Aspire had gradually reduced its investment in Eupen in recent years, a decline that contributed to the club’s relegation to the Challenger Pro League last season. QSI is expected to revive the project immediately and has already taken charge of the sporting operations. The new owners aim for a swift return to Belgium’s top flight – ideally as soon as this season – and plan to be active in the January transfer window.

Eupen currently sits 7th in the table on 23 points, level with Lommel, and 12 points behind promotion leaders Kortrijk. With reinforcements expected, the club believes closing the gap is still achievable.

In a message to supporters, the club emphasized unity during this transition: “You have always been the heart of this team… We ask you to continue supporting the club and Qatar Sports Investments as we develop AS Eupen at all levels.”

QSI, closely linked to Qatar’s royal family, continues to broaden its global sports and cultural footprint, with holdings in PSG, Braga, Premier Padel, and investments in Art Basel. Eupen now joins this wider structure as the group’s latest strategic acquisition.
