Following the transaction, Proximus will continue to focus on its hybrid cloud strategy.
Proximus announced it has reached an agreement to sell its data center operations to Belgian service provider Datacenter United for an enterprise value of 128 million euros.
This transaction aligns with Proximus's ongoing strategic plan to streamline its asset portfolio and concentrate on core IT services, part of its ambitious ‘bold2025’ strategy to divest 500 million euros in assets by 2027.
Under the agreement, Proximus will transfer ownership of data center infrastructure at its Evere, Mechelen, and Machelen sites, as well as related customer contracts, real estate, and operational staff. The deal includes a 10-year Master Service Agreement (MSA) for data center services to ensure continued support, alongside a long-term lease for telecom and office space at Evere and Mechelen.
By partnering with Datacenter United, a specialist operating nine data centers across Belgium, Proximus aims to enhance operational efficiency and ensure that clients benefit from secure, state-of-the-art facilities within the country.
Proximus plans to continue advancing its hybrid cloud services, integrating public and private cloud solutions with on-premise and managed services, bolstered by AI and security features.
"This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our divestment program", said Proximus’s CEO, who expressed confidence that working with Datacenter United will strengthen Proximus’s service offerings and support client data storage within Belgium’s borders. The sale is expected to finalize by Q1 2025, pending regulatory approvals and discussions with involved staff.
