Prayon, a global leader in phosphorus chemistry, has signed a binding agreement to acquire HRA (HRA Uniquímica and HRA Ingredients), a Colombian producer of phosphates, propionates, minerals, and other food sector ingredients.
The deal, expected to close in 2027, marks a strategic move to bolster Prayon’s position in food applications and expand its footprint in Latin America.
The acquisition aligns with Prayon’s growth strategy in high-value markets. By integrating HRA’s expertise, Prayon aims to strengthen its offerings in phosphate salts for food applications, enhance its presence in segments like baking, and diversify its portfolio with complementary specialty ingredients, including propionates, minerals, and fumaric acid.
Latin America, a high-growth market, presents significant opportunities. With HRA’s production units in Medellín and Cartagena, Prayon will be well-positioned to expand its commercial reach across Colombia and other Latin American countries, delivering its full range of solutions region-wide.

Prayon, headquartered in Belgium, employs 1,500 people worldwide and provides sustainable solutions across industries such as building materials, electronics, horticulture, food, and healthcare. The company is owned by OCP and Wallonie Entreprendre (WE) and operates production sites in Belgium, France, Switzerland, and the United States.
HRA, based in Colombia, specializes in manufacturing and commercializing ingredients and additives for the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and agro-industrial sectors. The company employs around 90 people and operates production sites in Medellín and the Free Trade Zone of Cartagena.
The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions precedent.
