Swiss-based MET Group has acquired a 68.5% stake in Belgian energy supplier Mega, aiming to expand into the B2B segment in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Swiss energy company MET Group has completed the acquisition of a 68.5% majority stake in Mega Group International, a Belgian energy and telecom retailer also active in the Netherlands. The remaining 31.5% stays in the hands of founders and co-CEOs Michael Corhay and Thomas Coune, who will continue to lead the company.

Mega is one of Belgium’s top five independent energy suppliers, serving around 500,000 customers. In Belgium, it provides electricity, gas, and mobile telecom services to households; in the Netherlands, it supplies electricity and gas to residential customers. Founded in 2013, Mega has grown into a major player in the country’s retail energy market.

With MET Group’s financial strength and expertise, Mega plans to expand into the B2B energy market in both Belgium and the Netherlands, while maintaining its existing low-cost offering for households. For MET Group, active in 19 countries and primarily focused on B2B energy trading and infrastructure, the deal marks its first presence in the Benelux.

MET Group CEO Benjamin Lakatos said the acquisition strengthens the company’s retail portfolio and fits its Western European growth strategy. For Mega, the partnership provides the resources to pursue larger projects and capture market share in the corporate energy segment.
