Martens Brewery acquires United Dutch Breweries, expanding global reach.
Bocholt-based Martens Brewery has announced its acquisition of United Dutch Breweries (UDB) from investment firm Gimv. With this move, Martens adds renowned beer brands like Oranjeboom, Royal Dutch, and Three Horses to its portfolio.
CEO Jan Martens expressed his excitement about the acquisition: "This perfectly aligns with our future plans to strengthen our presence in the global branded beer market. It’s a significant step forward for us."
Both breweries boast a long history, with Martens celebrating 266 years and UDB's roots going back almost 500 years. The acquisition allows Martens to tap into UDB’s strong presence in Africa, complementing Martens' success in Asia.
The acquisition is expected to propel Martens forward by five years in achieving its growth targets, initially set for 2028. For employees of both companies, no major changes are expected.
Martens Brewery, known for supermarket beers like Cara and Buval, aims to brew more of its own branded beers with this acquisition, enhancing profitability and expanding its global reach.
