Investment cooperative Horticoop has acquired a stake in Belgian company Anorel, a producer of water-soluble fertilisers for horticulture and agriculture.
Anorel, founded 30 years ago, is active globally and focuses on alternatives to conventional synthetic fertilisers, a segment facing increasing regulatory and sustainability pressure.
Anorel has made substantial investments in the development of innovative and sustainable production technology. The partnership with Horticoop is intended to support further product development and international scaling.
Following the transaction, Anorel’s day-to-day management will remain with the existing management team. The company will continue to operate as a family-owned business, while accelerating its growth plans with the support of Horticoop.
Horticoop invests in companies across Europe and North America that contribute to the sustainable development of the global agri-food sector, with a particular focus on horticulture and agriculture. Its members are professional growers from the horticultural sector.
Earlier this year, Horticoop also invested in REKA Group, a specialist in soil improvement through regenerative farming approaches. The size of Horticoop’s investment fund has not been disclosed. The cooperative paid out a total of 8 million euros in dividends to its members last year.
Financial details of the Anorel transaction, including the size of the stake acquired, have not been disclosed.
