Swedish giant Hexagon buys Leuven's Septentrio to help automate the world.
Hexagon AB has announced an agreement to acquire Septentrio NV, a Leuven-based leader in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies.
The acquisition aims to strengthen Hexagon’s position in Resilient Assured Positioning solutions, supporting the development of autonomous systems across diverse industries.
Septentrio, known for its innovative GNSS platforms, will integrate with Hexagon’s portfolio, which includes sensor fusion, anti-jamming technologies, and perception systems.
This synergy is expected to deliver high-accuracy, low SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) positioning solutions for markets such as robotics, UAVs, and other mission-critical applications.
“This combination will set new standards for accuracy, resilience, and scalability in positioning technologies, accelerating the path toward full autonomy”, says Norbert Hanke, Interim President and CEO of Hexagon AB.
Septentrio, with 150 employees, is projected to generate over 50 million euros in revenue in 2024. It will operate under Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions division post-acquisition. The transaction, subject to regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the first half of 2025.
This move reflects Hexagon’s commitment to expanding its presence in high-growth segments and enhancing the accessibility of advanced positioning solutions worldwide.
