Apheon has acquired a majority stake in dental healthcare specialist, Hager & Meisinger Group.

The Hager & Meisinger (H&M) Group, which specialises in premium dental instruments and procedure-specific workflow solutions, fits well within Apheon’s private equity strategy: partnering with the multi-generation family owners and management of global market leaders in attractive healthcare and niche markets.

“H&M brings together two established brands, deep engineering and manufacturing expertise and a broad portfolio of high-precision dental instruments,” explain Apheon partner Nils Lüssem and director Finn Pilath in a press release.

Founded in Germany in 1888, H&M provides rotary instruments, bone management and implantology to dental practices, oral surgeons and laboratories in more than 100 countries through its international distribution network today. This network also supports clinical education and knowledge exchange among dental professionals.

“We have been particularly impressed by the quality of the team, the group’s close relationships with clinicians and distributors and its potential for further international growth, particularly in the U.S.,” Nils and Finn point out.

With Apheon’s support, H&M intends to pursue this potential – both organically and through selective acquisitions. “We are proud of what our team has achieved and see significant opportunities to bring our products and expertise to more customers around the world,” share managing directors Burkard Höchst and Sebastian Voss, adding that they believe Apheon is the right partner for this next chapter. “It was important for us to find a partner that shares our long-term perspective and respects the heritage, commitment to quality and close relationships on which H&M has been built.”

As part of the transaction, Burkard and Sebastian will retain a meaningful shareholding alongside Apheon and continue leading the business into its next phase of international expansion.

With approximately €4.5 billion in assets under management across its entire pan-European network and around 250 completed add-on acquisitions since inception, Apheon brings extensive buy-and-build experience to H&M – including the recent acquisition of Teknimed, also in the healthcare sector.

Munich-based M&A firm Pava Partners advised H&M Group's managing shareholders on the deal, while Apheon received guidance from Apheon Advisors, with a presence in Brussels and Munich (among other locations).
