Belgian geospatial software company Merkator has acquired its industry peer Siggis, a division of IT group Cevi.
As part of the deal, Cevi will become a minority shareholder in Merkator, alongside investment firm Sofindev and the company’s management.
Merkator, based in Flemish Brabant, develops software and services that leverage geographic data to improve network management and public safety. Its technology helps utilities, telecom providers, and network operators create digital twins of complex infrastructures. Additionally, public authorities use Merkator’s software to streamline permit approvals, reducing unnecessary road disruptions.
This acquisition marks Merkator’s first major expansion since Sofindev took a majority stake in 2023. Siggis, active in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, and French-speaking Africa, specializes in geospatial data solutions. With the deal, Cevi will acquire a stake in Merkator.
By integrating Siggis with GIM, another geospatial company acquired in 2022, Merkator aims to achieve 32 million euros in revenue this year. The company now employs 240 people.
Merkator’s clients include major organizations such as gas grid operator Fluxys, telecom giants Proximus and Telenet, the Belgian Ministry of Defense, and over 200 municipalities using its software for public space management.
This acquisition follows another recent deal within Sofindev’s portfolio, as Belgian fire protection company Altebra acquired Slovakian peer Pyronova in March, further expanding its European presence.
