GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) has signed an agreement to acquire Leuven-headquartered icometrix, a provider of AI-powered brain imaging analysis solutions.
The deal aims to strengthen GE HealthCare’s neurology portfolio by integrating icometrix’s icobrain platform with its MRI systems.
Founded in 2011, icometrix specializes in extracting clinically relevant data from brain MRI scans, supporting diagnosis and monitoring for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, dementia, epilepsy, stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Its FDA-cleared icobrain aria product is the first computer-aided solution to detect and quantify Amyloid Related Imaging Abnormalities (ARIA), a key safety concern in patients treated with anti-amyloid Alzheimer’s drugs.
GE HealthCare sees the acquisition as part of its precision care strategy, anticipating strong growth in neurological MRI demand with the global rollout of new Alzheimer’s therapies. “By integrating icometrix’s AI-powered insights with our imaging technologies, we aim to empower care teams with clarity and confidence in managing complex neurological conditions”, says Roland Rott, President & CEO of GE HealthCare Imaging.
Icometrix CEO Wim Van Hecke welcomes the deal, highlighting opportunities to accelerate innovation and scale. The company also works with pharmaceutical firms on clinical trials and real-world evidence in neurology.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Completion remains subject to regulatory approvals, with GE HealthCare planning to fund the deal with cash on hand.
