German mobility group Flix, the parent company of FlixBus, has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Luxembourg-based airport shuttle operator Flibco.

The transaction was announced on Tuesday. Flibco’s current owner, SLG, will retain a minority interest. Financial terms were not disclosed.

With the deal, Flix aims to strengthen its position in European passenger transport. Flibco operates in several European countries and runs services such as the shuttle connection between Breda in the Netherlands and Brussels Airport in Zaventem.

Flix drew attention in 2023 with preparations for an initial public offering that would have valued the company at around 4 billion euros, with JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and BNP Paribas selected as advisors. The IPO did not go ahead.

Instead, Flix explored selling a stake to private equity, with Sweden’s EQT mentioned as a potential investor, but no deal has materialized so far. In 2021, Flix expanded beyond Europe with the acquisition of the iconic US bus operator Greyhound for 172 million dollars.
