Dutch private equity firm Main Capital Partners secures record 5.25 billion euros for Benelux expansion

The Hague-based investment firm Main Capital Partners has raised over 5.25 billion euros in commitments for its latest funds, Main Foundation III and Main Capital IX, marking the largest capital-raising effort ever for private equity investments in the Benelux region.

The new funds of Main Capital Partners more than double the size of their predecessors, bringing Main’s total assets under management to over 12 billion euros.

Both funds were oversubscribed, with strong demand from existing and new global institutional investors. Notably, Belgian players such as West Flanders-based asset manager Quaestor are among the participants, underscoring the cross-border appeal of Main’s strategy.

The capital will fuel Main’s focus on lower mid-market enterprise software, a sector where the firm invests between 5 million and 150 million euros per company. Main aims to scale these businesses into larger, international software groups through organic growth and targeted mergers and acquisitions.

The firm’s track record speaks for itself, with 38 exits achieving a weighted average gross return of 4.7x and a loss ratio well below 0.5 percent.

In addition to its traditional markets in the Benelux, DACH, Scandinavia, France, and North America, Main is now expanding into the United Kingdom, drawn by the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on the enterprise software industry.

The new funds have attracted significant commitments from U.S., Asian, and Middle Eastern investors, including sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and insurers such as Ohio’s State Teachers’ Retirement System and Korea’s Teachers’ Credit Union.
