Intertoys, the Dutch toy retail chain and part of the Belgian Dreamland group, has announced the acquisition of a 75 percent majority stake in Wings Holding, the parent company of the well-known Dutch online toy shop Lobbes.nl.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
The acquisition also includes Thimble Toys, a wholesale toy distributor under the Wings Holding umbrella.
According to Intertoys, the takeover will not disrupt the existing operations of Lobbes.nl or Thimble Toys, and both companies will retain their current management teams.
The distribution center for both brands remains in Ede, the Netherlands. The remaining 25 percent of Wings Holding’s shares will stay with the existing management.
Eddy Assies, CEO of Intertoys, stated that the acquisition strengthens the company’s position in the online toy market and complements Intertoys’ product range.
Intertoys, which operates over 200 stores, is the largest toy retailer in the Netherlands and was previously part of the now-defunct Mirage Retail Group, which also included the Blokker department store chain.
Two years ago, Intertoys was acquired by ToyChamp, the Belgian toy retail group led by the Nolmans family, and now operates under the Dreamland brand in Belgium.
Additionally, ING Bank has secured nearly 7 million euros in refinancing for Lobbes.nl and Thimble Toys to accelerate growth and expansion. This strategic move further solidifies Dreamland’s presence in the Benelux toy market, combining Intertoys’ extensive retail network with Lobbes.nl’s strong online platform.
