East Flanders entrepreneur Dominique Desrumaux has completed his second acquisition in the motorhome sector with the purchase of Urbano Motorhomes, a well-known company based in Ostend.
Desrumaux has spent decades in the automotive industry, previously working at D’Ieteren and expanding Garage Mertens – an Audi and Volkswagen dealer he acquired as a Skoda distributor – before selling it to the Dutch group Van Mossel at the end of 2023.
His interest in motorhomes stems partly from personal experience traveling by camper, but also from his belief that the fragmented sector offers strong potential for professionalization and growth.
After entering the market three years ago with the acquisition of Alpha Motorhomes, Desrumaux is now combining it with Urbano to form one of Belgium’s largest motorhome players.
Urbano’s former owner, Paul Dendooven, sought a solution for the nearly 50-year-old family business due to his age and the absence of a successor. The newly formed group, which will operate under the Urbano Motorhomes name, is expected to sell more than 1,000 units annually, an estimated 20 to 25 percent of the national market, placing it on par with established competitor Dicar.
Desrumaux has not ruled out further acquisitions as he continues to expand his presence in the sector.
