The Belgian retail giant Colruyt Group has completed its acquisition of Delitraiteur, following approval from the Belgian Competition Authority on June 2.
This marks the official conclusion of a deal first announced in October 2024, in which Colruyt agreed to acquire 100 percent of Delitraiteur’s shares from Louis Delhaize.
Delitraiteur, a food retail chain known for its ready-made meals and premium fresh products, operates 40 stores in Belgium and one in Luxembourg. With the exception of three locations, the stores are run by independent entrepreneurs. All outlets are now part of the Colruyt Group. The existing management and staff will remain, and the stores will continue to operate as customers know them today.
According to Johan Vermeire, General Manager B2B Food Retail at Colruyt Group, the acquisition fits well with the company’s growth strategy: “Delitraiteur complements our existing store formats perfectly. Both companies are customer-focused, innovative, and deeply rooted in Belgium. We see great potential to strengthen one another and grow together.”
This strategic move expands Colruyt Group’s footprint in urban areas and reinforces its position in the growing market for ready-to-eat meal solutions. Starting this month, Delitraiteur’s results will be fully consolidated into Colruyt Group’s financial figures.
