The Luxembourg company CLdN has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Samskip’s quay-to-quay and door-to-door freight operations between continental Europe and the UK & Ireland.
The deal, which includes Samskip’s container shipping services connecting the Dutch port of Rotterdam with key UK and Irish ports – such as Belfast, Dublin, and Hull – will add over 1,000 annual port calls to CLdN’s network.
These routes serve a diverse customer base, including major consumer goods manufacturers, and involve the transfer of more than 5,000 multimodal cargo units, ranging from pallet-wide and refrigerated containers to specialized flat racks.
The acquisition is poised to seamlessly integrate Samskip’s operations into CLdN’s existing short-sea and multimodal offerings, pending regulatory approval. CLdN will inherit not only the shipping routes but also critical supplier agreements, including road haulage, rail, barge connections, and port operations.
This move aligns with CLdN’s strategy to expand its roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) services, enhancing its ability to provide mixed cargo and containerized solutions across Europe.
Financial details remain undisclosed, and the deal is subject to regulatory clearances.
