Borro expands digital deposit system across Europe with 1.3 million euros funding

post-title

Borro, a Belgian pioneer in digital deposit systems for reusable cups, is set to expand into the Netherlands, Germany, and France this summer, backed by a 1.3 million euros investment.

The investment comes from from Seeder Fund, imec.istart, bluesnipe, PMV, and GS1 Germany’s corporate venture arm, butterfly & elephant.

The startup’s innovative system links reusable packaging to users’ bank cards, enabling automatic deposit refunds via smart collection points—eliminating waste and simplifying reuse for both event organizers and attendees.

Already deployed at major Belgian football clubs like Club Brugge and KV Mechelen, Borro’s technology has processed millions of cups and is gaining traction internationally, including a upcoming pilot at PSG’s Parc des Princes in Paris.

Unlike RFID-based alternatives, Borro uses invisible codes readable by cameras, offering a more scalable and cost-effective solution. Co-founder Glenn Verhaege emphasizes the system’s simplicity and affordability as key differentiators in a rapidly growing market.

The fresh capital will fuel team expansion and accelerate Borro’s European rollout, with co-founder Kasper Albers stating the ambition to become "the European reference for digital deposit systems."

The company’s growth aligns with rising demand from stadiums, festivals, and amusement parks seeking efficient, regulation-compliant reuse solutions.
