Belgian EDGX raises €2.3M for AI satellite tech

Ghent-based EDGX secures €2.3M to accelerate AI edge computing for satellites, aiming to boost in-orbit data processing and autonomy.

Ghent-based EDGX, founded in 2023 by Nick Destrycker and Wouter Benoot, has raised €2.3M in seed funding to develop high-performance AI edge computing systems for satellites. The round was co-led by Antwerp’s imec.istart future fund and the Flanders Future Tech Fund, managed by PMV, with continued support from imec.istart.

The investment will advance the commercialisation of EDGX’s flagship Sterna Computer, designed to process satellite data directly in orbit, reducing the need for ground-based processing and enabling faster decision-making. The system is compatible with multiple launch vehicles, including Falcon 9, Ariane 6, and Vega-C, and has passed rigorous vibration, thermal-vacuum, and radiation tests.

The SpaceFeather Software ecosystem supports Sterna’s operation with a space-hardened Linux OS, real-time monitoring, in-orbit software updates, and fault detection and recovery systems to ensure mission continuity in extreme space conditions.

EDGX has already signed a €1.1M multi-unit commercial deal with a satellite operator and secured contracts with government and institutional clients. An in-orbit demonstration on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 is planned for February 2026, with two more missions scheduled later that year.

CEO Destrycker says the goal is to pioneer space-ready AI systems that turn satellites into autonomous data-processing hubs. CTO Benoot adds that EDGX’s technology aims to push the boundaries of what’s possible in space computing.
