Aperam expands U.S. presence with major acquisition

The Luxembourg-based steel company buys Universal Stainless & Alloy Products.

Aperam S.A., a Luxembourg-based global leader in stainless and specialty steel, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, for 45 dollars per share in an all-cash deal.

The acquisition, valued at approximately 539 million dollars, will be fully funded through debt and is set to close in the first half of 2025.

This move enhances Aperam's footprint in the U.S. aerospace and industrial markets, complementing its strategy to diversify and strengthen its portfolio. The acquisition is expected to generate 30 million dollars in annual synergies, boosting earnings and cash flow.

With around 750 employees and four U.S. manufacturing sites, Universal is a key supplier of specialty steels, particularly to the U.S. aerospace sector. This acquisition not only expands Aperam's geographic reach but also strengthens its capabilities in high-growth industries, aligning with its broader transformation strategy.

The deal underscores Aperam's commitment to innovation and growth, enhancing its portfolio and services while securing a more resilient market position.
