Ahold Delhaize will sell 87 supermarkets in Romania to local retailer Annabella, fulfilling competition requirements tied to its acquisition of Profi earlier this year.
The stores include 82 Profi outlets and five Mega Image branches, both previously under Ahold Delhaize’s control. Annabella, a Romanian chain with over 30 years of market presence, will take over operations once the deal closes.
The divestment was mandated by the Romanian Competition Council (RCC) to prevent market dominance after Ahold Delhaize’s purchase of Profi, announced in January. Completion of the sale depends on standard approvals, including clearance by the RCC, and is expected by the end of 2025.
The move allows Ahold Delhaize to meet regulatory obligations while focusing on further integrating Profi into its portfolio.
