Belgian insurer AG has taken an equity stake in Doktr, the Belgian video consultation app launched by Proximus in 2021. The deal, subject to regulatory approval, adds AG alongside Proximus, CM Gezondheidsfonds and Solidaris as core shareholders in the platform.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Market observers note that Doktr has surpassed 400,000 downloads since launch and continues to see annual growth in consultations with doctors and psychologists.
The investment reflects growing interest in hybrid healthcare models as Belgium grapples with structural shortages of general practitioners, particularly in Antwerp and Flemish Brabant. Studies cited by Doktr and AG show that nearly half of Belgians are open to video consultations, with user satisfaction rates at 97 percent.
For AG, the move builds on years of partnership with Doktr, embedding teleconsultations in its health insurance offering. Proximus reiterated its ambition to leverage AI and digital platforms to ease pressure on frontline care, while the mutual insurers stressed accessibility and efficiency gains for patients.
The consortium plans to accelerate Doktr’s growth by expanding the platform’s services to employers and employees, broadening its provider network, and enhancing features such as chat and digital triage.
