West Flemish entrepreneur Guido Dumarey is no longer in the running to acquire the ailing bus builder Van Hool. This means that whether or not a new start will be made depends on the Dutch-German duo VDL-Schmitz.

Dumarey aimed for a quick restart, but for this the company first had to be declared bankrupt. He ultimately backed out when asked to extend his proposal, which was set to expire on April 8. He also thought the price for the entire contents (200 million euros) was too high. In addition, he had to bump into two large groups. VDL-Schmitz is now the only candidate acquirer.

Those negotiations are still ongoing. Bankruptcy will probably be filed on Monday and it will be announced whether VDL-Schmitz will take over Van Hool.
