Charging station startup Spari raises millions

Insurer Ethias and investor Wallonie Entreprendre are investing 24 million in Sparki.

The Belgian start-up Sparki, which specializes in charging stations for electric vehicles, wants to expand the Belgian network with the installation of 600 ultra-fast charging stations, of which about a hundred have already been installed, mainly in Flanders.

To accelerate the rollout of these stations, Ethias and Wallonie Entreprendre are offering the start-up a capital round of 24 million euros. Major shareholder Gridlink is also participating.

Spari, which had difficulty raising financing, last month became more than 80 percent owned by the energy services company Gridlink. Gridlink rolled out an investment plan of almost 100 million euros to have 600 ultra-fast charging stations ready by the end of next year. The entry of the Walloon government holding company WE should help to accelerate the installation of charging stations in Wallonia.
