Harmoney secures 10 million euros growth investment from Smile Sail to accelerate international expansion in counterparty risk management.
Harmoney, a leading software provider specializing in Counterparty Risk Management, has secured a 10 million euros minority investment from Smile Sail, an evergreen private equity fund focused on European Software and AI leaders.
The funding will support Harmoney’s next phase of international growth, deepening client commitments, scaling its global go-to-market organization, and advancing AI-driven product innovation.
Addressing a shifting compliance landscape
The European compliance sector is undergoing structural transformation. The EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), effective from July 10, 2027, will introduce the first unified AML rulebook across all Member States.
Meanwhile, the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA), operational since July 2025, is already developing technical standards to redefine customer due diligence, beneficial ownership checks, and ongoing monitoring.
Additionally, the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), enforceable since January 2025, extends regulatory accountability deep into third-party supply chains for thousands of EU financial entities.
In response, compliance is evolving from fragmented, periodic checks – using separate tools for KYC, AML, MiFID, UBO, ESG, and Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) – toward continuous, orchestrated Counterparty Risk Management across the full lifecycle. Harmoney is at the forefront of this shift, expanding its orchestration capabilities to meet growing demand.
Market momentum and strategic vision
Harmoney’s modular platform enables financial institutions and regulated enterprises to streamline complex onboarding, compliance, and risk workflows. It connects customers, counterparties, compliance teams, third-party data providers, and core systems, serving 70+ clients across 7 countries. The platform supports a wide range of compliance processes, including KYC, AML, MiFID, PEP, UBO, DORA, ESG, and TPRM.
Thomas Van Maele, Co-founder and CEO of Harmoney, stated: “We founded Harmoney to simplify compliance and risk management, allowing our clients to focus on building trusted relationships. As Counterparty Risk Management expands beyond traditional KYC and AML, we see a unique opportunity to scale our platform internationally. Smile Sail’s entrepreneurial expertise and proven track record in scaling B2B software companies make them an ideal partner for this journey.”
Ronald Kemmeren, Partner at Smile Sail, added: “Harmoney is emerging as the European market leader in Counterparty Risk Management software. The market is clearly moving away from fragmented solutions toward integrated orchestration platforms. With AMLR, DORA, and the broader risk management agenda driving demand, Harmoney is central to this transition. Its software is mission-critical for blue-chip clients, onboarding and monitoring millions of counterparties daily while providing compliance teams with real-time visibility. We look forward to supporting Thomas, Wouter Haerick, and the team as they capture this significant opportunity.”
