Global chemical distributor Manuchar has agreed to acquire CJP Chemicals, a prominent South African chemical distributor, in a move set to bolster its presence in the region and expand its global distribution network.

The acquisition, announced today, aligns with Manuchar’s long-term strategy to deepen its market reach in high-growth regions.

CJP Chemicals, founded in 1986, is renowned for its technical expertise, customer focus, and robust supply chain, serving key industries such as food and beverages, lubricants and energy, industrial manufacturing, personal care, and pharmaceuticals. With operations in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, and Gqeberha, the company employs around 170 people and generates over 100 million US dollars in annual revenue.

Manuchar, headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium, operates a vast distribution network across North and Latin America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The company employs 3,000 people globally, manages over 4.6 million metric tons of goods, and reports approximately 2.6 billion US dollars in sales across 40 countries and 180 locations.

Manuchar has been active in South Africa since 2003, with offices in Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town, employing around 100 people locally.

A strategic expansion
The acquisition of CJP Chemicals will enable Manuchar to broaden its product portfolio and enhance its regional coverage, reinforcing its leadership in high-growth markets. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, pending antitrust approval.

Laurent Pasqualini, CEO of Manuchar Group, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition: "This marks a significant milestone in our ambition to strengthen our chemical distribution platform in key high-growth markets. By combining CJP Chemicals’ strong legacy in South Africa with Manuchar’s global reach, we will offer a comprehensive product portfolio – from core commodities to high-value specialty chemicals. Together, we are poised to become a leading chemical distribution player in Africa, particularly in South Africa, delivering broader solutions, enhanced supply reliability, and the service excellence both companies are known for."

Karabo Radebe, Managing Director of CJP Chemicals, welcomed the partnership: "Joining the Manuchar Group opens an exciting new chapter for CJP Chemicals. Their global scale and supply chain capabilities will enable us to serve our customers with even greater reliability and depth, while maintaining the commitment and expertise our partners trust."
