Walloon satellite builder Aerospacelab secures €12 million from investors including Imec Xpand and BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity.

Aerospacelab, the fast-growing Walloon satellite manufacturer, has completed a €12 million capital round to support its expansion.

The largest contribution came from Leuven-based fund imec.xpand II, injecting €5 million. Other participants include entrepreneur Marc Dubaere (€1 million), BNP Paribas Fortis Private Equity (€0.5 million), Luxembourg’s Space Opportunities Syndicate and Flanders’ Torus Capital.

This transaction follows an earlier €17 million raise, bringing the total operation to €29 million. That round valued Aerospacelab at €500 million and attracted Swedish private equity group EQT Partners, alongside existing backers such as Airbus Ventures and regional funds Wallonie Entreprendre, Sambrinvest and Noshaq.

Founded to provide a European answer to the booming demand for small satellites, Aerospacelab has already built a satellite factory in the United States. In Charleroi, a second facility is under construction, designed to produce up to 500 satellites per year—set to become one of the largest plants worldwide.

Despite rapid growth, the company remains loss-making. It generated revenues of €29 million last year but closed with an €11 million deficit.

The fresh capital is expected to accelerate production and strengthen Aerospacelab’s ambition to position Belgium as a key hub in the global space industry.
