Gimv takes minority stake in Equine Care Group to boost global expansion

European private equity investor Gimv has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a minority stake in Equine Care Group (ECG), joining existing shareholder CNP, which remains the company’s lead strategic partner.

The deal strengthens an already robust shareholder base including CNP, Bencis, the founders, managers, and veterinarians.

Founded in 2021 through the merger of EquiTom, Global Medics and an ambulatory care practice, ECG has rapidly grown into one of Europe’s leading providers of high-end equine healthcare.

The group operates equine hospitals, ambulatory services, reproductive care, nutrition and supplement brands, and specialized labs. Treating more than 50,000 horses annually, ECG has expanded both organically and through over 30 acquisitions, and is known for working with Olympic teams and leading stud farms.

Gimv joins ECG through a joint entity that retains majority ownership, with CNP continuing to lead the partnership. The new investor aims to accelerate ECG’s global growth alongside CNP and CEO Dr. Tom Mariën. ECG’s vet-led model combines medical expertise, greenfield development in underserved regions, and a strong focus on research, education and innovation.

Backed by CNP, Bencis and now Gimv, ECG plans to further consolidate its position as a global leader in equine medicine and veterinary innovation, leveraging Belgium’s strong equestrian heritage.

Bart Diels, Managing Partner and Head of Healthcare at Gimv, highlighted ECG’s similarities with Gimv’s previous doctor-led growth stories and expressed enthusiasm for supporting its international expansion. CNP CEO Xavier Le Clef and CFO David Caudron said Gimv’s expertise would bolster ECG’s worldwide ambitions.

The transaction represents a significant step for Gimv, making ECG 1 of its 10 largest portfolio holdings.
