European investment firm Gimv, together with EQT Life Sciences as co-lead investor, has led a 51 million euros Series B financing round for Exciva GmbH, a neuropsychiatric drug developer based in Heidelberg.
The round also attracted participation from Fountain Healthcare Partners, LifeArc, Modi VC, Carma Fund, and existing investor Andera Partners.
Proceeds from the financing will be used to advance Exciva’s lead drug candidate, Deraphan, into a Phase II clinical trial for agitation associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
The international study is planned across Europe, the United States, and Canada, following a successful Phase I trial demonstrating the compound’s safety and tolerability.
Deraphan combines two clinically validated components, including a new chemical entity, with the aim of improving efficacy and safety compared with current treatment options.
Gimv said the investment reflects its focus on backing innovative life sciences companies addressing significant unmet medical needs, while highlighting Exciva’s experienced team and differentiated approach to treating neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia.
