Colruyt Group expands ready-to-eat offerings with acquired convenience food chain.

Colruyt Group announced its acquisition of Delitraiteur, a Belgian convenience food chain, from the Louis Delhaize Group.

With this move, Colruyt continues its strategic push into the ready-to-eat and convenience food market, responding to growing consumer demand for healthy, quick meal options.

Founded in 1990, Delitraiteur operates 40 stores across Belgium and one in Luxembourg, offering a wide range of prepared meals, sandwiches, and salads.

Under the acquisition, Delitraiteur will retain its brand name and current management team, and most stores will continue to be operated by independent franchisees.

Jo Willemyns, Colruyt’s operational director for Food Retail, emphasized that the acquisition aligns with Colruyt’s strategy to meet consumer demand for easy, nutritious meal solutions. “This addition enhances our convenience offerings and complements our other brands”, he said, referencing other recent expansions, such as the gourmet bar BON.

The deal, expected to close in early 2025 pending approval from the Belgian Competition Authority, marks Colruyt’s latest acquisition from Louis Delhaize, following its recent purchase of 54 Smatch and Match stores.

While financial details have not been disclosed, Colruyt sees this acquisition as a key step in broadening its market share in convenient, ready-to-eat foods across Belgium.
