Belgian deep-tech startup D-CRBN secures 17.5 million euros to scale CO₂ recycling tech

Belgian deep-tech company D-CRBN has closed a 17.5 million euros Series A round to scale its electrified plasma technology, which recycles CO₂ and hydrocarbons into circular carbon molecules for sustainable fuels, chemicals, and materials.

The round was led by Astaia, with participation from Belgium’s SFPIM and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund.

The technology uses renewable electricity to convert CO₂-rich industrial off-gases and hydrocarbons into carbon monoxide and syngas – key building blocks for sustainable production.

By electrifying these processes, D-CRBN offers European industry a scalable pathway to reduce fossil feedstock dependence while maintaining competitiveness.

Funds will accelerate the industrial scale-up of D-CRBN’s plasma reactors, support pilot projects with leading steel and chemical partners, and drive the transition from validation to first commercial deployments. The technology has already been validated at industrial pilot scale.

Investors highlighted the strategic potential of D-CRBN’s approach. Andreas Blome, Director at Astaia, called it “a scalable, real-economy solution” addressing Europe’s fossil dependence.

Leon Cappaert of SFPIM emphasized its role in reinforcing Europe’s industrial resilience, while Hermann Hauser of the EIC Fund praised its ability to turn emissions into valuable industrial inputs.

Founded in Belgium, D-CRBN collaborates with major players across steel, chemicals, and energy sectors. With prior support including a 2.5 million euros EIC Accelerator grant, the company is positioning itself as a key enabler of Europe’s circular carbon economy.
