Apheon acquires majority stake in Belgian wood coatings group Rubio Monocoat

post-title

European private equity firm Apheon has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Rubio Monocoat, a Belgian producer of sustainable wood protection solutions, marking the exit of investment firm Bencis from the business.

Founded in 1906 and headquartered in Izegem, Belgium, Rubio Monocoat develops and markets mono-layer wood oils, wood paints and construction sealants for interior and exterior use.

The company serves professional craftsmen, woodworkers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in more than 80 countries and operates production sites in Belgium, the UK and the US.

Rubio has grown significantly in recent years under Bencisownership, expanding its product portfolio, strengthening its commercial organisation and accelerating international growth.

Management and the founding Muylle family will remain shareholders alongside Apheon.

With Apheon as its new majority owner, Rubio aims to further accelerate international expansion, strengthen its omnichannel distribution model and continue investing in innovation.

The company is also expected to pursue selective bolt-on acquisitions to broaden its product offering and geographic footprint.

Apheon manages more than 3 billion euros in assets and focuses on mid-market investments across Europe. Bencis, which has offices in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, has supported Rubio’s transformation into a globally active, innovation-driven platform.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
