Belgian construction and infrastructure group Aertssen Group has acquired Ghent Dredging, a specialist in dredging, water construction, and environmental remediation based in Eke, near Ghent.
The deal strengthens Aertssen’s position in these sectors while accelerating its growth ambitions in northern France, a key target market.
Ghent Dredging, with nearly 50 years of experience, brings deep expertise in in-situ soil remediation and the maintenance of ports and waterways.
The acquisition leverages the companies’ long-standing collaboration and complementary strengths. Aertssen Infra excels in dry earthworks and large-scale ex-situ remediation, while Ghent Dredging specializes in dredging and in-situ treatments. Together, they can now offer a broader, integrated service package to public and private clients.
Geographically, Ghent Dredging’s established presence in northern France provides Aertssen with immediate local expertise and a ready-made network.
Yves Aertssen, CEO of Aertssen Group, called the deal a "perfect fit", highlighting Ghent Dredging’s specialized knowledge and shared values. Former CEO Wim De Schipper, who prepared the transition, emphasized the importance of finding a partner that aligns with Ghent Dredging’s culture.
"After 50 years, it was crucial to ensure continuity for our team and clients", he said. The entire Ghent Dredging workforce will remain, operating from its current base in Eke under its existing name.
The acquisition marks another step in Aertssen Group’s expansion, bringing its total workforce to around 2,500 across over 30 countries. For Ghent Dredging, the move secures a sustainable future within a larger group, while maintaining operational independence.
Aertssen Group was advised by the deal by BDO Belgium (M&A Advisory) and Schoups (Legal Advisory).
