Brussels Airport Company has acquired the nearby Novotel property from Covivio Hotels.
The acquisition forms part of Brussels Airport’s broader Hub 3.0 project to diversify its activities through investment and create a stronger connection between airport infrastructure, hospitality services and future passenger needs.
“With this project, we are investing in a future-oriented airport that not only responds to the expected growth in passenger numbers but, above all, focuses on sustainable mobility solutions and greater comfort and efficiency for all our passengers and airlines,” said Brussels Airport CEO Arnaud Feist in a statement.
The airport already owns the Sheraton hotel located directly opposite its terminal building, following the acquisition of its owner, Airhotel Belgium SPRL, in 2019. “The acquisition of the Sheraton hotel is important for Brussels Airport as it allows us to fully integrate the hotel into our future development plans in this strategic area,” explained Arnaud at the time.
As part of the Hub 3.0 project, the Brussels Airport Company also plans to develop its own four-star hotel (with around 300 rooms). Moreover, it is creating a major intermodal transport hub where trains, buses, trams, cycling routes, and more meet, connecting the airport to the city region and surrounding business areas.
Because of its proximity to the airport and its position right on the planned tram, the building and surrounding land that Novotel currently operates from fit perfectly into this next phase of growth. The hotel will continue to be operated by Essendi and managed by Accor Group.
