PMV Life Sciences & Care team welcomes one more member, Kjell Mortier
Kjell Mortier has been appointed as an investment manager at PMV Life Sciences & Care.
In his new role, Kjell Mortier will focus on sourcing, structuring as well as guiding venture and growth-stage investments across Flanders’ biotech, medtech and digital health sectors – helping early-stage innovations scale into market-ready, international enterprises.
He joins PMV as deal activity, spin-off momentum, and venture capital deployment across the Belgian life sciences landscape continue to accelerate, including recent deals such as Droia Ventures’ funding round for Vaderis Therapeutics and Curium's acquisition of Abscint SA (among many others).
Kjell’s appointment marks the latest strategic expansion of the Flemish investment company’s specialised healthcare and biotech team as it aims to respond to increasing activity. In July, PMV Life Sciences & Care also welcomed Ana Algueró Nadal as an investment analyst and Caroline Goddeeris as a strategic advisor.

Nathalie Van Bruaene, who heads up the Life Sciences & Care practice at PMV, welcomed Kjell to the team: “With his extensive expertise, Kjell will be a valuable addition to the team, and we look forward to working with him.”
Prior to PMV, Kjell was the owner and managing director of Mobio Consult, providing support for investment analysis, company valuation, fund reporting and portfolio company reporting with a focus on life sciences.
From February 2019 to April 2026, he was a fund manager at the early-stage venture capital fund Novalis. Looking back at his time with the company, he comments: “It's been an incredible ride together with Jan Van den Berghe, Jaroslav Belotserkovsky and Wim Van Criekinge, starting from a micro VC fund in 2019, to the broad portfolio it has today.”
He adds that it was also rewarding to collaborate with the people in the portfolio companies. “There have been challenges and difficult discussions, but always with mutual respect and willingness to move forward and create value.”
Before this, Kjell was an interim manager at BioLizard, and before that, he served as the lead analytical scientist at Eurofins Amatsigroup (CDMO), where he evaluated and introduced new analytical technologies. At the same time, Kjell has also been a board member of various life sciences companies, including Epify BV, RheaVita BVBA, RheumaFinder, BioLizard and Clouds of Care.
His early career focused on the foundational knowledge of being a scientist. Kjell completed his PhD at Ghent University in 2006, after which he was an LC-MS application specialist at Waters. From 2009 to 2010, he briefly worked as a continuous improvement supervisor in Baxter BioScience’s QC labs before joining AnaBioTec as a project leader in 2010. He also spent five years as a scientist at Ablynx.
With Kjell’s strong sector background and close alignment with the company’s mission to support high-impact Flemish entrepreneurs in the life sciences, the appointment is a great fit for PMV.
